BOSTON – The Small Business Administration (SBA) has named Evans Machine Co. the 2020 Jeffrey Butland Family Owned Business of the Year for Massachusetts and New England.

Evans Machine Co. earned the recognition for contributions to the manufacturing industry and leadership in community service. Based in Brockton, Evans Machine Co. is a precision manufacturing facility involved in product development for several industries, including medical, health, defense, and automotive.

“The Jeffrey Butland Family Owned business award is a very special award named in honor of former SBA New England Regional Administer Jeffrey Butland and is intended to recognize businesses carrying on the tradition of family business ownership which is at the heart of the American story,” said SBA Massachusetts District Director Bob Nelson.  “Evans Machine, started in 1986, is a testament to the power and potential of family owned businesses and we are honored to recognize Dan Evans and the Evans team for their success and support of the community in the metro south region.  Congratulations! “

In 2013, Evans Machine Co. utilized the SBA 504 program from SEED Corp. to expand its existing building to add an additional 15,000 sq. ft. of production space.   The completion of the project helped grow the company exponentially and sustain its leadership in manufacturing in the region.

“We have recently experienced our share of adversity in this time of Pandemic, but I am honored to say EMI – Evans Machine Co., Inc.,    has not laid off a single employee.    By the numbers, some would say we should have, but being a family business, we manage with our Heart.   Our team made up of 60 families, prospered and Grew together and we will come out of this Pandemic together, said President, Dan Evans.  “We are grateful for the program’s afforded by the SBA, assisting EMI to stay the course.    We are excited for the future, poised for Growth and look forward to adding additional employees to our Great Team.      On behalf or EMI and the many families we depend on, Thank You, we are truly grateful.”

The success of the business has allowed Evans to take part in community service and charitable work, specifically with area schools and colleges, workforce development and economic development agencies in the region, including: South Shore Chamber of Commerce, Norwich University, Metro South Chamber of Commerce, South Shore Vocational Technical High School, and Brockton Area Workforce Investment Board.

The company was nominated by Jessica Mello of South Eastern Economic Development Corporation.

Evans will be honored virtually at the annual SBA Massachusetts Small Business Week Awards event on Wednesday, September 23rd, 2020.  Rescheduled from May, National Small Business Week will be a 3-day virtual conference from Tuesday, September 22nd to Thursday, September 24th.
